Sir Stafford Cripps came to India in March 1942 offering Dominion Status only AFTER the war, with the right of provinces to stay out of the Union. The Congress rejected it as "a post-dated cheque on a crashing bank", and the Quit India Resolution followed in August 1942. The distractors belong to other movements: the Rowlatt Act (1919) led to Non-Cooperation, the failure of the Second Round Table Conference (1931) to the resumption of Civil Disobedience, and the Mountbatten Plan (1947) came five years AFTER Quit India — an effect, not a cause.
