Explanation

On 5 February 1922 an angry mob at Chauri Chaura in Gorakhpur district set fire to a police station, killing 22 policemen. Gandhiji, holding that the people were not yet ready for a non-violent struggle, called the movement off at once — to the dismay of many leaders. Option (c) belongs to a different movement: the Gandhi-Irwin Pact of 1931 suspended CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE.
