(1) To maintain international peace and security, and to take effective collective measures to prevent and remove threats to peace and to settle disputes by peaceful means. (2) To develop friendly relations among nations, based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples. (3) To achieve international co-operation in solving problems of an economic, social, cultural and humanitarian character, and to promote respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without distinction of race, sex, language or religion.
