Mention any two clauses of the Treaty of Versailles.
Topic: Treaty of Versailles
Answer
(1) Under the War Guilt Clause Germany was held responsible for the war and required to pay a huge war indemnity to the Allies, and she lost all her colonies and about one-eighth of her territory — Alsace and Lorraine returning to France. (2) Severe military restrictions were imposed so that Germany could never again threaten Europe: her army was limited to 100,000 men, conscription abolished, submarines, military aircraft and tanks forbidden, and the Rhineland demilitarised.
One mark each. Grouping the clauses by TYPE — one territorial or financial, one military — gives two clearly different answers rather than two versions of the same. The figure 100,000 men is the detail that marks a precise answer. Signed on 28 June 1919, and worth one closing line: its harshness bred the resentment Hitler later exploited.
