Answer briefly each of the questions (a) to (j):
Write any two contributions of Lala Lajpat Rai to the National Movement.
Topic: Lala Lajpat Rai
Answer
(1) As one of the trio LAL-BAL-PAL he led the Assertive Nationalists, championing Swadeshi, boycott and national education during the anti-Partition agitation, and he founded the National College and the Servants of the People Society. (2) He led the protest against the SIMON COMMISSION at Lahore in 1928 and was fatally injured in the lathi charge, dying soon after — his death roused the whole country and gave a great impetus to the movement. He was called "Punjab Kesari", the Lion of Punjab.
One mark each. Cover two different phases of his life — his work as an Assertive Nationalist and his death protesting the Simon Commission. The Simon Commission point is the stronger, because it links him to a turning point in the movement: his death was avenged by Bhagat Singh and helped push the Congress towards Purna Swaraj. His title, Punjab Kesari, is worth including.
