The Partition of Bengal took place in 1905 (it came into effect on 16 October 1905).
Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India, was responsible for it.
Explanation
One mark for the year and one for the name — a short answer, so give both precisely and do not pad it. Worth one extra line if there is room: Curzon claimed the partition was for administrative convenience, but its real purpose was to divide Hindus and Muslims and weaken the nationalist movement in Bengal. It provoked the Swadeshi and Boycott movements and was finally annulled in 1911.
