Appellate Jurisdiction is the power of the Supreme Court to hear APPEALS against the judgements of lower courts — cases which have already been heard in the first instance by a High Court and are brought to the Supreme Court against the decision given there.
Appeals lie in constitutional, civil and criminal matters, and the Supreme Court is the highest court of appeal in the country.
The definition must contain the word APPEAL and the idea that the case has ALREADY been heard below — that is what distinguishes appellate from original jurisdiction. Original jurisdiction means hearing a case DIRECTLY, in the first instance. Papers routinely ask for one and offer the other as a distractor.
