What is meant by the term 'Judicial Review' of the High Court?

Judicial Review is the power of the High Court to examine the laws passed by the legislature and the orders issued by the executive, and to declare them NULL AND VOID (ultra vires) if they are found to violate the Constitution.

By this power the Court acts as the guardian of the Constitution and the protector of the Fundamental Rights of the citizens.

Explanation

The words "null and void" or "ultra vires" are what earn the mark; a vague answer such as "it reviews the laws" gets nothing. Keep it apart from REVISORY jurisdiction, which corrects an error in a lower court’s DECISION, and from APPELLATE jurisdiction, which hears appeals. Judicial Review is about the constitutionality of a LAW.
