WHY FREQUENT URINATION HAPPENS — and this is worth understanding rather than memorising. When blood glucose is very high, the kidney tubules cannot reabsorb all of it, so glucose passes into the urine. Glucose in the filtrate raises its osmotic concentration, which DRAGS WATER with it and prevents normal reabsorption. The result is a large volume of urine.
That single mechanism explains the classic triad of symptoms, which is why they are always listed together: POLYURIA — excessive urination (water lost with the glucose) POLYDIPSIA — excessive thirst (the body replacing that lost water) POLYPHAGIA — excessive hunger (cells are starved of glucose even though the blood is full of it)
