Explanation
Root hairs are single-celled extensions of the epidermal cells in the root hair zone, just behind the growing tip.
The word UNICELLULAR in the question is the clue that distinguishes them from a multicellular structure. Each root hair is an outgrowth OF one cell, not a group of cells.
Their purpose is to increase the SURFACE AREA enormously for the absorption of water and minerals. They are thin-walled and their cell sap is more concentrated than the soil water, so water enters by OSMOSIS.
