Calculate the current drawn from the cell.
Topic: Current from a cell
Question wording verified against source paper
Answer
Exam answer
Given: cell voltage V = 4 V, total resistance R = 8 Ω (from part (a))
By Ohm's law: I = V ÷ R = 4 ÷ 8 = 0.5 A
Current drawn from the cell = 0.5 A
Explanation
Ohm's law applied to the whole circuit, using the single equivalent resistance you found in part (a). That is why reducing the network first was worth the effort.
This current is the MAIN current, which then splits between the two branches. Since both branches are 16 Ω, it divides equally: 0.25 A through each, adding back to 0.5 A ✓.
