Two founders: Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru of India and Marshal Josip Broz Tito of Yugoslavia. (Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt, Dr Sukarno of Indonesia and Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana are equally acceptable.)
Two objectives: (1) To keep away from military alliances and the two power blocs, and to preserve the independence of judgement of the newly free nations, so that each international issue could be judged on its own merits. (2) To work for world peace and disarmament and to oppose colonialism, imperialism, racialism and apartheid, while seeking a fairer economic order for the developing countries.
Four marks split evenly — two founders and two objectives, one mark each. Name each founder WITH his country; a bare list of names risks half marks. The five architects are Nehru (India), Tito (Yugoslavia), Nasser (Egypt), Sukarno (Indonesia) and Nkrumah (Ghana). The first objective — staying out of the blocs — is the defining one and must appear.
