The Speaker is elected by the members of the Lok Sabha from among themselves, by a simple majority of those present and voting, at the first sitting of a newly elected House.
Explanation
Three elements earn the mark: elected BY the Lok Sabha, FROM AMONG its own members, by a SIMPLE MAJORITY. The trap to avoid is thinking that both Houses vote — they do not. Contrast the Vice-President, who IS elected by the members of both Houses and presides over the Rajya Sabha as its ex-officio Chairman.
