A session is the period during which a House of Parliament meets to conduct its business — from the day the President summons it until it is prorogued or dissolved. Members meet, pass Bills and discuss the affairs of the state.

There are normally three sessions in a year: the Budget Session (February to May), the Monsoon Session (July to August) and the Winter Session (November to December).

Explanation

One mark, so a single clear sentence of definition. Adding the three sessions with their months costs little and covers the follow-up question that so often accompanies this one. The key idea is that a session runs from SUMMONING to PROROGATION — both are acts of the President, on the advice of the Council of Ministers.
