The quorum is the MINIMUM NUMBER OF MEMBERS who must be present for a House of Parliament to transact its business. It is ONE-TENTH of the total membership of that House.
If there is no quorum, the Presiding Officer must adjourn the House or suspend the sitting until a quorum is present.
Explanation
Two elements earn the mark: the minimum number required, and the figure of ONE-TENTH. The examiners’ report for this year noted that candidates wrote incorrect interpretations of the term — so give the fraction, not a vague description. A worked example fixes it: in a Lok Sabha of 545 the quorum is about 55, so a House with 50 members present must be adjourned.
