The powers and functions of the Indian Parliament are wide-ranging. In this context answer the following:
Mention any two Judicial powers and two Electoral powers of the Indian Parliament.
Topic: Judicial and electoral powers of Parliament
Answer
JUDICIAL POWERS: (1) It can IMPEACH THE PRESIDENT for violation of the Constitution, the charge being preferred by one House and investigated by the other, each passing the resolution by a two-thirds majority. (2) It can remove the JUDGES of the Supreme Court and the High Courts, and other high officials such as the Comptroller and Auditor General and the Chief Election Commissioner, by an address to the President supported by a special majority; and it can punish for contempt of the House and for breach of its privileges.
ELECTORAL POWERS: (1) The ELECTED members of both Houses take part in the election of the PRESIDENT, along with the elected members of the State Legislative Assemblies. (2) The members of both Houses elect the VICE-PRESIDENT; the Lok Sabha elects its Speaker and Deputy Speaker, and the Rajya Sabha its Deputy Chairman.
Four marks split evenly — two judicial and two electoral, one mark each. Use separate headings so both halves are visible at once. Keep the categories distinct: removing people from office is JUDICIAL, putting people into office is ELECTORAL. Mixing them is the commonest error here. Note one detail for the electoral half: only ELECTED members vote in the presidential election, but BOTH elected and nominated members vote for the Vice-President.
