UNLESS means IF NOT, so converting it requires TWO changes at once, and this is what the question is testing.
Original: UNLESS she practises... she WILL NOT be able... Expand: IF she does NOT practise... she WILL NOT be able... Simplify: IF she practises... she WILL be able... Both halves flip. Changing only one produces a sentence that means the opposite.
Option (b) is the trap for anyone who changes "unless" to "if" and leaves the rest alone — it now says that practising will PREVENT her succeeding.
A quicker route: since "unless X, not Y" is logically the same as "if X, then Y", you can go straight to option (a). Test your answer by asking whether it still gives the same advice as the original.
