"Not only... but also" and "as well as" both join two items, so the transformation is a straight substitution: the guitar AS WELL AS the drums.
Why the others fail: (b) drops the second "as" — the phrase is "as well AS", always three words. (c) adds "he does", which is not wrong grammatically but is clumsy and changes the rhythm of the original unnecessarily. (d) uses "and", which the instruction implicitly rules out, and adds an apostrophe to "plays" — a plural verb never takes one.
