The relationship between the two sentences is CONTRAST — he was wise, and yet he was not trusted — so ALTHOUGH is the right conjunction, and the meaning of both sentences must survive intact.
Three of the four options silently reverse the meaning, which is what makes this question harder than it looks: (a) says the teacher TRUSTED him — the opposite of the original. It also commits the common error of using "although" and "yet" together; one or the other, never both. (b) says he was NOT wise and WAS trusted — both halves reversed. (c) shifts to the present tense and again reverses the trusting.
