The relationship is CAUSE AND EFFECT, and the direction matters: the deadline is the REASON the work must be completed, not the other way round.
Option (a) reverses it — "Since this work must be completed, there is a deadline" claims the work created the deadline, which is backwards. Option (c) uses "though", turning it into a contrast: the work must be done DESPITE the deadline, which makes no sense. Option (d) uses "when", making it a matter of timing rather than reason.
THE METHOD for every synthesis question: work out the relationship between the two sentences first — reason, contrast, time, condition — and then check the DIRECTION of that relationship. Half the wrong options in this question type are the right relationship pointing the wrong way.
