INTERPHASE.
Explanation
Interphase is called the RESTING stage only in the sense that the cell is not DIVIDING. It is in fact the busiest part of the cell cycle — the cell grows, makes proteins, and replicates its DNA so that each daughter cell will receive a complete set.
That apparent contradiction is the whole point of the question: resting from division, but metabolically very active. Interphase also occupies about 90% of the cell cycle.
Note for ICSE: answer INTERPHASE. Some sources say the G0 phase, but G0 is not part of the Class 10 syllabus and interphase is the expected answer.
