Explanation
CNG is mainly methane, stored under high pressure and used as a vehicle fuel.
WHY IT IS PREFERRED: it burns far more cleanly than petrol or diesel, producing much less carbon monoxide, unburnt hydrocarbons and particulate matter, and almost no sulphur dioxide or lead. It is therefore a measure against AIR POLLUTION.
Delhi converted its entire public transport fleet — buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws — to CNG by order of the Supreme Court, which is the standard Indian example and worth citing.
