Explanation
In cataract the normally transparent lens becomes CLOUDY AND OPAQUE, usually with age as its proteins break down and clump together.
The treatment is surgical removal of the clouded lens and its replacement with an artificial intraocular lens, which restores vision.
Do not confuse cataract with GLAUCOMA, the other common age-related eye disorder: glaucoma is a build-up of pressure inside the eyeball that damages the optic nerve, and it affects a different structure entirely.
