THERMAL POLLUTION — the release of HEATED water into a natural water body, raising its temperature.
Why it matters biologically: warm water holds LESS DISSOLVED OXYGEN than cold, so aquatic organisms suffocate; fish eggs and young are killed; and the raised temperature speeds up the metabolism of the organisms that survive, increasing their oxygen demand at exactly the moment oxygen is scarce.
THE TRAP is option (B). Water pollution IS occurring in a broad sense, and that makes it tempting — but the question says "identify the KIND", and thermal pollution is the specific name for pollution by heat. When one option is a general category and another is the precise term, the precise term is the answer.
Option (A) is wrong because nothing radioactive is being released — the water is used only for cooling and does not contact the fuel.
