Explanation
STATIC equilibrium is the balance of the body AT REST — knowing the position of the head with respect to gravity, and which way is up.
The utriculus and sacculus contain sensory hair cells embedded in a jelly holding tiny granules of calcium carbonate (OTOLITHS). When the head tilts, gravity pulls the granules, they bend the hairs, and the sensory cells signal the new position to the brain.
STATIC means still — the word tells you which kind of balance is meant.
