OVULATION.
Explanation
Ovulation is the release of the mature OVUM from the Graafian follicle of the ovary. It occurs about the 14th day of a 28-day menstrual cycle, triggered by a surge of LUTEINISING HORMONE (LH) from the anterior pituitary.
The released ovum is drawn into the funnel of the fallopian tube, where fertilisation takes place if sperms are present.
What remains behind is important for the follow-up: the empty follicle becomes the CORPUS LUTEUM, which secretes progesterone to maintain the uterine lining.
