Because a sharp object can PUNCTURE OR TEAR THE EARDRUM (tympanic membrane), which is a very thin and delicate membrane. A damaged eardrum can no longer vibrate properly, so sound is not transmitted to the ear ossicles, and the result is partial or complete DEAFNESS. It may also introduce infection into the middle ear.

Explanation

Name the STRUCTURE damaged (the eardrum) and the CONSEQUENCE (deafness) — a general warning that it is "dangerous" earns little.

The eardrum is only about 0.1 mm thick, which is why it tears so easily.

WORTH ADDING: earwax is PROTECTIVE, not dirt. It traps dust and insects and keeps the canal slightly acidic, discouraging bacteria, and the canal cleans itself naturally — so poking at it removes a defence as well as risking injury.
