Explanation
White blood cells are AMOEBOID — they can change shape and put out pseudopodia — which lets them force their way between the cells of a capillary wall without damaging it.
WHY IT IS NECESSARY: bacteria multiply in the TISSUES, not in the bloodstream, so the defending cells must LEAVE the blood to reach them. The PUS at an infected wound is largely dead white cells and the bacteria they engulfed.
RED cells cannot do this; having no nucleus they cannot change shape in this way and remain inside the vessels.
