LYSOZYME.
Explanation
Lysozyme is an ENZYME present in tears (and in saliva and nasal secretions) which destroys bacteria by breaking down their cell walls.
This is the function of tears that candidates forget. Tears are not merely salt water for washing away dust: they also PROTECT the eye from infection, and naming the enzyme is what shows precise knowledge.
Lysozyme is part of our INNATE immunity — the inborn, non-specific defences — which links this term to question 6(b)(i) of the same paper.
