Mention any two factors that led to the formation of the Muslim League.

(1) The anti-Congress attitude encouraged by the British and by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, who urged Muslims to stay away from the Congress, which he portrayed as a Hindu body. (2) The British policy of Divide and Rule, together with Muslim opposition to the anti-Partition (Swadeshi) agitation in Bengal, which convinced a section of Muslim leaders that they needed a separate political organisation to protect their interests.

Fix the founding facts first: the All India Muslim League was founded at Dhaka in December 1906 by Nawab Salimullah of Dhaka, Nawab Mohsin-ul-Mulk and others. For full marks give two genuinely different factors — the British encouragement and the reaction to the Bengal agitation are the two strongest. Adding the demand for separate electorates (granted in 1909) shows what the League achieved from it.
