Answer
Exam answer
The Axis Bloc was formed by GERMANY, ITALY and JAPAN — the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis, formalised by the Tripartite Pact of 1940. Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria joined later.
Explanation
Two marks for three countries, and the phrase ROME-BERLIN-TOKYO AXIS is worth using — it names the three capitals and so the three powers in one stroke. Their opponents, the ALLIED Powers, were Britain, France, the Soviet Union, the USA and China. Note the change of sides worth remembering: Italy fought on the ALLIED side in the First World War and on the AXIS side in the Second.
