(a) A class is the blueprint; each thing built from it is an instance, which is precisely what an object is. That is why variables belonging to individual objects are called instance variables. (b) A constructor carries the class name exactly and has NO return type, not even void. It runs automatically when an object is created with new, and its job is to initialise the object’s variables. Adding a return type would turn it into an ordinary method — a favourite examination trap.
