Explanation
A nested if means BOTH conditions must be satisfied before the inner statement runs — the inner if is reached only when the outer one is true. That is exactly what && expresses, so the two conditions collapse into one.
Use && (AND) here, not | | (OR): with | | the statement would run if either condition held, which changes the meaning entirely.
Note the reverse transformation is equally examinable — an if with && can always be written as two nested ifs.
