Explanation
Hydathodes are permanently open pores through which GUTTATION occurs — the loss of water in LIQUID form, as visible drops.
It happens at night or early morning, when humid air prevents transpiration and the stomata are closed, but ROOT PRESSURE continues to push water upward. The water is forced out as droplets along the leaf edge.
THE DISTINCTION: TRANSPIRATION gives water VAPOUR through STOMATA; GUTTATION gives water DROPS through HYDATHODES.
Their position at the vein endings is logical — that is where the water arrives under pressure.
